Asisat Oshoala entered the history books as the first Super Falcons player to score in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups after she netted in the side’s 3-2 victory against Australia on Thursday.
The 28-year-old was a doubt for the game after picking a knock in the team’s 0-0 draw against Canada last week.
Oshoala took the place of Uchenna Kanu on 64 minutes.

The Barcelona Femeni forward profited from a sloppy defending from the co-hosts to score the Super Falcons third goal of the thrilling encounter.
Oshoala scored her first World Cup goal for the Super Falcons in the 3-3 draw against Sweden at the 2015 edition hosted by Canada.
The 28-year-old was also on target four years ago in the 2-0 draw against South Korea.

When Oshoala was introduced in the second half, the stadium went mute. Australians knew Asissat as a big name in the biggest female club in the world, Barcelona, but they most likely didn’t know she was Nigerian. So when they heard her name announced as a substitute, they knew there was trouble and probably thought “Okay, these Nigerians are not an easy opponents as we had thought.”
It takes pure class to score that type of Oshoala goal.
Scoring away from a marking defender, from a very tight angle and under such tension. Oshoala is truly a great talent and we are lucky to her.
Please that doesn’t take anything away from Onumonu, another very very good player for Falcons. And please Waldrum should be careful with changes in our defence line next time. Removing Plumtre who was the main passage route out from our defence was almost gonna cause us real real problem. Plumtre should never again be rushed out except for injury. Those younger players still got loads of nerves about them, and these kind of nerves requires years of experience to rid of. Dementin suffered same in the earlier stages of the game but was lucky to get cover from the experience of both the beautiful Plumtre and woman of the match Ohale.
Not much credit has been given to the chief engineer of 2 goals: Rasheedat Ajibade. She was massive. If she had scored, she likely would have been voted the Woman of the Match.
And Nnadozie, as usual (bar the miskick for the first goal conceded) came to the party, saving point-blank headers that could have brought Australia back into the game. I hope we have a capable deputy for her.
Funny enough Chiamaka Nnadozie was an understudy to Tochukwu Oluehi in the last world Cup. But it took just a game to change all that. Oluehi is still a still capable but you know, it’s difficult to change a winning team
yeah, I respect Rasheedat Ajibade when it comes to football. I always have rest of mind anytime I see her holding ball. She holds, distributes and has excellent ball control.
Congratulations to you, Oshoala. Coach Waldrum should keep using Oshoala from the bench as I said before this match. This will bring the best out of her.
Now, if fully fit, Oparanozie should come in against Ireland, and Kanu and Monday as well.

The match against Ireland may be tougher than this. Super Falcons should not underrate Ireland because they are technically and tactically sound.

The goalkeeper was the solid rock today. Oshoala was superb, God bless them all. To these Nigerian Ladies, we hail thee. You girls really makes Nigeria proud. The coach was marvelous. Thank you coach. Nigeria will thrash Ireland. don’t loose sleep over that.

Let’s hope NFF will pay his salary arrears, and even give him an additional performance bonus. He has really earned it. Plus including the players bonuses, as Chief Zebrudaya would say!
I’m one of those who saw a decline in the Falcons since Waldrum took over. And let’s be honest, we finished a deserved 4th at Afcon. 4th. Nigeria’s female football team in Africa. We didn’t qualify for the last Olympics. But at this present time, this team is transformed. Disciplined, playing for each other, and difficult to create chances against. The team spirit is tremendous. Well done players, manager and the technical crew.

I like Osuala starting on the bench. That happened a lot at Barcelona last season but she ended up being nominated for Ballon d’Or. Oparadozie can add to teamplay and chances creation. But not for full 90 minutes. Ajibade is a baller, but needs to complete more dribbles. Kanu and Anumudu are a good pair. Combination play should improve with more time together.
