Victor Osimhen grabbed a brace on his debut for Lille who defeated Nantes 2-1 in their French Ligue 1 clash at Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday, reports Completesports.com.

Osimhen opened scoring for the home team in the 19th minute, cooly slamming the ball home following a pass from Jose Conte.

Lille were pegged back five minutes after the break with Mehmet Celki conceding an own goal.

Osimhen netted the winning goal 10 minutes from time with a near post finish.

The Nigeria international was involved from start to finish in the game.

Lille will face Amiens in their next French Ligue 1 fixture on Saturday.

Good start , golden boot at the end of the season. All the best ! I wish Coach Rohr can leave us alone so that coach who can identify talent with mature first team potential like you take over super eagles. Players are not our problem but who to manage them effectively is our problem. This is a player that was benched for 99% 2019 afcon games despite his current form. Refresher course will still not make him see potential in players! Abeg Coach Rohr de go na! Abi DR Congo don change their mind?

Did Ighalo disappoint? No! Now that he has retired, no sane coach will put a red hot player like Osimhen on the bench.

The guy could have come in at some point when Ighalo was tired. Our coach said he falls too easily. Typical German mentality. I’m sure if Rohr were to he Kanu’s coach, Kanu will forever remain on bench.

Did he not come in, in the last game. And remember Ighalo Started Afcon from the bench and scored few minutes after introduction. Infact Ighalo played full 90mins only in 3 games in Afcon with first and last game only 17 and 45 mins respectively, yet scoring in each and also winning the golden boot and we are still complaining. No wonder he had to retire, because no matter what he does Nigerian fans will still complain.

I must say that I was disappointed Rohr benched this guy almost throughout the AFCON. And with all my support for Rohr, that gave me a reason to think twice but I decided not to criticize him yet. But I think he also needs a “Bonfere Jo” to be successful. He seems to be bereft of ideas sometimes and his game plan is predictable. He has different types of players capable of being used for different formations but he never explored that strength. I admit we should not cry over not winning AFCON because by many considerations we are not yet the best team in Africa. But I also think Rohr gave the semi final match away too cheaply. He was way too predictable. With a better technical approach, it could have been a different story with Algeria.

The commentator said – “QUICKNESS, DETERMINATION AND SKILL. VICTOR OSIMHEN EMBODIES THEM ALL”. Two well taken goals. The first one brought back memories of Yekini, who was a master at chesting the ball down from the sky. With this performance, he has locked down a starting position. Hopefully, he will continue to grow from here.

WHEN WE TALK SOME PEOPLE WILL SAY WE HATE ROHR AS IF CRITICIZING SOMEONE APPROACH DENOTES HATRED. LOOK AT THE QUICKNESS AT WHICH THIS GUY SCORES GOALS CAN IGHALO DO SUCH RATHER ROHR STILL OPENED HIS MOUTH JUST RECENTLY THAT HE WOULD TRY TO PERSUADE IGHALO TO COME BACK. WHO NEEDS IGHALO . TO ELDERS LIKE POMPEI AND DR DRE PLEASE LETS UNITES TOGETHER SO THAT THE NFF CAN GIVE US SOUND TECHNICAL COACH WHO CAN MAKE USE OF PLAYERS THAT WE HAVE NOW FINE ROHR IS A GOOD MANAGER OF PLAYERS BUT HE IS BEREFT OF THE INGREDIENTS THAT CAN REALLY MAKE SUPER EAGLES GREAT.

What was the performance of Osimhen in test matches prior to the afcon?how did he fare when he got his chance eventually against Tunisia?
Osimhen is a good player but playing for the senior national team is not as easy as most of you criticising Rohr thinks.Sometimes you have to sit on the bench as understudy to someone who is more experienced learn and wait for your time.
Ighalo has retired from the national team so Osimhen and others who are equally doing well at their clubs have to prove they can fill the vacancy created by Ighalo’s sudden retirement.
It’s one thing to be successful at club level and another to show similar form at the national team.
I hope he carries on with this stellar performance and carry it over to the super eagles.

          @Greenturf Well captured.
You are quite on point with the choice of Ighalo over Osimhen at the last Afcon. While it could be argued that Rohr have could have given Osimhen more game time to prove his quality yet there is no way the youngster can start ahead of more experienced and proven goal scorer as Ighalo who was Eagles’ top scorer during the AFCON qualifier; to prove his worth he emerged the tournament’s highest goal scorer.

Victor Osimhen’s time in the SE is now with Ighalo’s departure; He has been tipped as Eagles long term replacement for Ighalo after his exploits at the under age competition,he should be urged continue to maintain his scoring form and improve his all round aspect of his game. It will be a huge delight to see the likes of Chukwueze and David Okereke form a strong bond with Osimhen in the attack.

We should not be too feeble minded. No reason to condemn Rohr over the bench role of Osimhen, every one can’t play at ones.Besides like Friday said did Igalo disappoint nooooooo.. it will be totally insane for any coach to play an Osimhen above Igallo who is more prolific and more experienced.Even the all song Salah and Sane did not come close to him in the goals chart. The beautiful thing is that every player will have their own time and as we can all see Igallo even if he choses to continue with the SE is already in his wee hour of his career and more than 10 years older than Osimhen.Osimhen and many other strikers will get their time.Infact Osimhen is not the only Niger striker that is doing well, check out David Okereke and Chuba,we have great future ahead of us, we can only remain joyous.

Great start, let’s continue to pray for him, hopefully our words of encouragement will get to his agent, the boy should pls stay away from social media, night partying, and be very careful of those French girls, because they are very good at crying wolves.

What a way to start the debut in the ligue 1; Victor Osimhen’s brace is a statement of intent and determination to prove his quality in the new season at Lille. The gangling striker is carrying on his goal scoring from the Belgian league where he started from.
