James Webster has been named as Featherstone Rovers’ new coach, signing a two-year deal. The 40-year-old has spent the last two seasons working as Hull KR’s assistant boss under Tim Sheens, having previously been in charge at Wakefield.
Webster enjoyed most of his playing career in England, making 137 appearances in featuring for KR, Hull FC and Widnes Vikings. Rovers were on the lookout for a new boss following Ryan Carr’s departure and after missing out in the recent Championship Grand Final, the former half-back’s focus is expected to be on a repeat promotion push.

“I am really honoured and excited to become Head Coach of such a progressive club as Featherstone,” he said. “I have always enjoyed going to Post Office Road as an opposing player or coach and can’t wait to sample the atmosphere on the other side of the fence.
“Obviously the playoff series was extremely exciting for all involved. I thought the level of away support was fantastic and shows the passion within the club. I can’t wait to get back into pre-season.”
