      _Nwakali Makes Positive Headlines_

Thanks CSN. There had been some confusion about what Kelechi Nwakali actually won. Some said it was the La Liga 2 player of the month. This was dispelled when it emerged another player from another club won that award.

Six years after brushing Victor Osihmen to second place in winning the Golden Ball award at the 2015 U-17 FIFA world cup, Kelechi Nwakali has now taken baby steps towards achieving his full potential. He has now added to his individual awards this Alcorcon player of the month acknowledgment.

Many fans can be forgiven for failing to celebrate this accolade. Both Osihmen and Chukwueze who shared individual awards with the Imo state born midfielder at that same cadet world cup are already playing at the highest level for both club and country.

Whereas both players are chasing Champions League qualifications with their respective clubs, Nwakali is busy battling to avoid the drop to division 3 in Spain with Alcorcon.

But I choose to see the positive side.

Since joining the club based in the autonomous community of Madrid, Nwakali has played 15 games non-stop in his preferred attacking midfield position, scoring 4 goals while accumulating 2 yellow cards for his combativeness.

Before he joined the outfit, they were on a free-fall and neck deep in relegation waters. Nwakali’s entrance gave the club a lift as he brought the spark back to their midfield engine.

For a club that was losing matches as if it was running out of fashion, Nwakali contributed in turbo charging them to 7 wins and 4 draws out of the 15 matches he played thus far. That equates to a 73% ratio of positive results – no greater indicator of Nwakali’s impact needs be sought.

Had Alcorcon started the season with such a ratio and had sustained it, they would not have found themselves drenching in relegation waters. It is good to see Nwakali announce himself emphatically as he plays his quota in navigating them to safety.

But more needs to be done. He needs to work harder and never give up until he starts playing at a level befitting the promise shown in his baby days.

Again, being named as his club’s player of the month is not the same as winning the ballon d’or. But, being recognized by one’s teammates and fans of a club for painstaking performance is a big deal in its own right.

      So, well done Nwakali.

@Deo your points are very valid. I will add that young players, when making choices of where to play after a successful age grade competitions, their primary target should be to get a team that will afford them opportunity of playing consecutively. It helps to build momentum greatly thus, building confidence and unleashing ones potential. If Harvey banes and Madison weren’t injured, we won’t be talking about Kelechi ihieanacho today being a mainstay in Leicester City squad. Look at Amoo in Sweden, he will definitely launch into the main stream way faster than his peers because he chose to go to developmental club that will afford him serious playing time. He is playing week in week out, delivering top class performances with that wicked left foot. Infact Ajax and some clubs are already on his trail. Wicked left foot and an eye for a pass is being harnessed playing regularly. Our young players should be made to know this. As good as osimhen is, he was a proper carpenter that was busy building benches for himself and other players at wolfburg until he decided to come down lower in Belgium. You are not helping yourself by heading straight to Manchester City or Real Madrid then waste your talent. Develop yourself properly as well as build your reputation to the point that when it’s time to move to a big club, even the huge outlay the club would have made, the name built over the developmental period will give you head start as regards playing opportunities, unlike when you are coming to a big club as an unknown quantity. Make we dey hear word. E get why

Thoroughly enjoyed reading your comments, Deo and Joel.
So happy for Kelechi. He was a joy to behold at the U-17s. I thought he played like Socrates, the legendary Brazil midfielder of the 1982 mundial.
The accurate passes, movement of the ball, and his ability with freekicks! I thought he was heading for greatness, like his colleagues Osimhen and Chukwueze.
How such a talent can end up struggling is still a source of wonder to me. But such is life. The swift do not always win the race….
However, things appear to be taking a turn for the better. This award may not be “big”, but it is definitely a step in the right direction.
An in-form Kelechi Nwakali playing with confidence is an asset to any team, including the SE. With hard work, more opportunities will come his way. Goldfish have no hiding place.

I hope Alcorcon beats the drop at least to make up for all the efforts put in by Nwakali thus far,a player celebrated by his country despite poor start to life as a professional footballer, having said that, many are still optimistic, some have shockingly gone as far as calling out for an invite to the super eagles despite a career not deserving an international not a side like the super eagles, far from it but that’s how huge the fan base he has gathered from his cadet days where he shown like a million stars.
Kelechi Nwakali,a midfield player with so much potential, touted as the next big thing, the successor of the iconic number ten worn by our legendary John Obi Mikel, but that dream may never happen for this young placid midfield dynamo as a certain Joseph Aribo has usurp him to the famous number for the super eagles, sadly so.So should Kelechi bring his game to a level of playing for the super eagles then he has to make do with another number definitely not a number ten.
Apparently, with this award his fans which I’m one of them, have hope at least and we hope he sustain this achievement and build on it.
Age is still on his side,at 22 he could still reach the pinnacle of his career with focus and hardwork.A reunion with his contemporaries at the 2015 under 17 class,Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze would be a joy to the super eagles and it’s fanatical fans that have solidly stood behind him over the years.

@Greenturf… I beg to differ. Anyone can wear the number 10… just like Iwuala did last time. As it stands… We are yet to see anyone convincing in that role since Mikel Obi’s stretch… Aribo may be a midfielder but if we are satisfied with his output especially against African opposition… no one will be talking Eze, Olise and Ejaria. We are still waiting for a real play-making number 10…
anyone can play the “10” against European oppositions like Ukraine, Serbia and Co, but come. and command it against gritty opponents like Cameroon, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt, Cape Verde and the rest…

I hope this will propel Kel to thrive well so that he can join the Super Eagles. I used to wonder how come the MVP of the U17 world cup couldn’t be in the same trend as Oshimen and chukwueze?
A player this talented playing in a lower division , seriously he needs to work hard enough to be considered a place in the top leagues as well as in the national team. Though he denied that he said he was dumping the national team for another country, he has got to work extremely hard for himself to be considered for national call up and also to gain prominence in a top clubin Europe .

Kel is also a number 10 that we need
He can score goals through free kicks as well as from chances created for him to do so . He also can co-ordinate the midfield. What else can one say.

All I can say is this , keep working hard Kel and don’t give up and don’t quit dreaming of making it to the national team.
