This starting line up is exciting. Strong strikers, resourceful wingers, intelligent midfielders, solid defenders propped up by a reliable goalkeeper.

      What else do you want?

We played well against Ghana in Abuja but the players just didn’t have the rub of the green on the day.

Uzoho is a much improved goalkeeper now.

As I had always suspected with Peseiro and Eguavoen before him, Owngoalnigeria.com actually referred to Peseiro’s formation for today’s match as 4-2-4.

      This is very interesting.

Well, Eguavoen’s 4-2-4 took the Afcon by storm before the wheels came off against Tunisia in the second round.

Let’s see how far 4-4-2 cum 4-2-4 will serve Peseiro.

Why only Awoniyi and lookman . What has Iheanacho and iwobi played. Even Boniface has not been excellent. So far lookman has flashes of intelligence. The best two players to me is Collins and Osai.

Aina will create danger than Collins Iheanacho is the only real threat in the attack. Awoniyi is a shameless player missing sitters because he can not be patient, lookman can not use his final ball well…. You are watching nonsense!!!!

I said it the last time that yakubu passed the touch to Awoniyi that is why I don’t rate him when I’m rating SE strikers and some clowns will try to rate him ahead of Iheanacho after Osigoal.

Yakubu is still the 3rd leading Nigeria goal scorer of all time, behind only legendary like YEKINI and ODEGBAMI, So what touch are you talking about ? However, people like you will only remember his miss against the Korean. Good thing is your ratings or opinion dont matter. My only suprise here is you are still calling some people Clown, seriously ? go check The YAK stats and you will know who is the real CLOWN is.

I’m not blind when a player is messing up and I should be praising him after they want us to believe they are superstars and the best in the Country!!!

I dont think these guys are serious… are they waiting for second half to score? They are playing with lackadaisical attitude… Lesotho has more numbers in midfield. Jose Peseiro will not take us anywhere we can have world XI playing for Nigeria and will not win tea spoon…

Jimmy you are right playing four attackers and two midfielders make us look suspicious at the back . And we are not building our play to score but rather throwing the ball forward aimlessly. With good team we are going to pay for it.

Why are all the shots and headers tame??? Isn’t only Osimhen that has a rocket in his boots?? Even the headers are looking like a back pass. No power.

Meanwhile African minnows have read the blueprint on how to frustrate Nigeria at home. Play 9 men behind the ball and 1 or 2 upfront. Look for a chance to loop the ball to the line strikers and hit it powerfully. CAR gave them the expo and Guinea Bissau copied it.

Iheanacho is the player who can make something happen out of nothing Peseiro should make changes.Simon for Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi does not play well in a Nigerian shirt. Even in the juinior teams Isaac Promise and Kelechi Iheanacho play ahead of him.

An average IGBO is loud, lousy, arrogant, uncouth and untrained!

Make your points without insulting entire strangers.

Comparing IHEANACHO a persistent, chronic bench warmer to Awoniyi is disrespectful

IHEANACHO has never top scored for ant Club in his Career

Awoniyi was top scorer for Mouscroom Union Berlin and Nothingham Forest in 3 different countries

We should go back to playing 4-2-3-1 or 3-5-2 if we must play twin prong attack… modern football is played in the midfield… no team in this day and age can win any tournament or serious match with 4-2-4 or 4-4-2… it is too limiting for the team. May God not allow us concede first in this game because, if that happens we will loose the game.

A good player will not necessarily be a good coach. I said eagles shud stabilize their defense 1st before going all out to get a win … Thank God uzoho was alert to stop that hot ball .. dat could have been the only goal in the first half…this is a game eagles need not struggle to win .just a good formation. 4 5 1 could easily have won them the game in the 1st 30 minutes, but Dem dey go all out . with 4 2 4 . .well if u give me 11 boys for from high school. I will only tell them to frustrate this eagles with 6 3 1 and the game wil be over.in 70 mins .den counter Dem wil 1 goal .end the game. This eagles can’t face Burundi or mosambique ooo

You guys can watch the match on YouTube.

However, if you expect anything from Oga Paseiro’s team, then you are on your own.

There are no single shots on target and no tactics or what we can input of the coach. NFF themselves are seeing the results. They will get what they deserve.

If Lesotho gets a chance to score, that is it.

Are we still the favorite to win the Afcon with Oga Paseiro and his team that could not put one or two passes together?

O am less concerned because I have said it all before now. NFF and the gaffer will sink Super Eagles.

Again, aside from Osimhen, Dessers is uncompareble to none of the strikers in the Super Eagles. Are we not seeing that today?

Lookman is a selfish player. The gaffer needs to look for qualities in players but not the club you play for some time.

Poor performance so far. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Taiwo Awoniyi should not be starting for Nigeria in a serious game. He may score some goals you don’t expect him to score, but he will for sure miss many sitters.

And this 4.2.4 formation does not make sense at all – this is exactly the formation Eguavoen played at the nations cup and world cup qualifiers that got us booted out of both competitions.

Awoniyi should be used as impact player and not starting for SE because he will do better coming from Bench than starting him to be loosing chances like Yakubu..

You are wrong this eagles are not over hyped . The most valuable team in Africa can not be over hyped. The system running these players are faulty . Nigeria teams are  bad tactically because the coach is a street hawker . Napoli won the Italian League last season but this season they have been struggling with the same set of players.  Change of coach who is less tactical would alway affect a team no matter how good the team is. Give this our team to Renard Harvard and you will see magic from the players.
One thing I know is if we fail to qualify for World Cup , it is the NFF officials that will be badly hit because there wont be any money for them to loot.

This is terrible to watch. A local coach from Lesotho put up a team to draw Nigeria at the Nigeria backyard while our foreign coach has no solution to break up his tactics. Then NFF is shame for hiring less quality coach for Nigeria.

Look at the way our players are playing and tell a lot about the current team of ours.

Salah just scored 4 goals in today’s match, but we always make noise of our attackers Osimhen, Awo, boni, lookman, ihenacho, moffi, etc. Even if we add Mpappe, Hallard, kane to this present squad with this nonsense coach nothing will change. If we meet South Africa or even Benin with this formation we may likely lose. I fear the next match against Zimbabwe they are only fortunate Zimbabwe are playing home away from home. This team is a kill joy. Personally i would not be watching the next match to avoid Bp. I just wasted my data today.

@Ndubest Osi is far below Salah when it comes to being an all round attacker. Salah dribbles well and also a great passer of the ball . He can also play a creative role.  Besides Egypt has better midfield than Nigeria and their coach is not as clueless as our perosoko.

The centre referees are even in shock discussing amongst themselves if this is Nigeria they use to know… I have just five things to share:

      1. Peseiro is not a coach, and should no longer be tolerated but fired immediately. We can continue to hope for the next 100years with Peseiro, he knows next to zero.

      2. We need to begin to invite only hungry players based on merit and form alone like other serious countries do it.

      3. We need to as a country have football identity… how we want to play oriented on midfield play with atleast 5man midfield and never 2man or 4man as our toad of a coach, Mr Peseiro likes to make us believe. We should look for new midfielders.

      4. Paul Onuachu is the cause of our struggle in front of goal in this game.

      5. I am sorry to announce that South Africa is likely to pick the world Cup ticket ahead of us.

Nigeria is broke and we do not need a foreign coach paid in dollars likewise overseas based players. Let the CHAN Eagles prosecute the remaining matches to enable us save our Forex! I may sound harsh but this coach is half-baked. He sets his team to sweep forward but not how to unlock defenses. That one is left to each player’s initiative. That’s why they run out of ideas once they get to the 18-yard box. That was the best thing about Westerhof. You always could see training ground moves executed on the pitch.

Paseiro just tells Simon or Iheancho to float a cross into the box and hope someone’s leg finds it. He has no 18-yard game plan. His only tactical plan is high-press and that’s it. Please don’t blame any players. After all, they regularly score in their clubs and are rated high, even though Osimhen is a cut above the rest.

Those criticizing Awoniyi don’t understand nothing about football, go back to sleep! I myself do not respond to nego’s with tribal angles- a dog might as well be barking!
Peseiro is not good enough! He lacks tactical awareness and an eye for a good footballer and that is very problematic if you are to be a football manager let alone a successful one!
Peseiro needs to be excused of his duties and Uzoho along with him, they both need to exit the building and mind that the door does not hit them on their way out!
Lookman MUST never start for us again, maybe from the bench, yes but never a starter. Period! It must always be Moses Simon – neither Lookman nor Chukwueze are good enough to lace Simon’s boot!
Unfortunately, Iwobi slept through today’s game – he might as well have been on the bench because he brought nothing to proceedings, but mind I said TODAY, he is still a starter in the team, he had an off day today – let’s hope we don’t see any more of those.
All in all – An off day for the whole team – see how crocodiles came chopped and conquered in our own backyard! With a 1-1 draw, it’s a moral victory for the Ligaunes!

Collins was not bad but he offered nothing extra Bruno that also came in was not special. I don’t get paid by any tribe so if coincidentally one tribe is mostly mentioned then it because they’re underperforming coincidentally. Let us be honest in submission and we will move forward as a nation and not to forget the coach is very average with his selection despite playing a very attacking formation.

I actually am not accusing you of tribalism Mr Samuels, I have seen your comments and I don’t particularly see them as tribalistic – Have I ever called you a tribalist before? I think NO would be the answer to that.

Make no mistake – I would not even waste my spit to respond or comment on any tribal angles or sentiments – I have said and will say again, It is a MUG’S game.

With Awoniyi – We’ll just have to agree to disagree because to me, he is after Osimhen, our best striker currently, in fact Osigoal is only better in my own humble opinion because he has been doing it for much longer- so in other words, he is more experienced.

I unlike you will not call the wqhole team out for today’s lacklustre performance – for me, it rests squarely on the heads of Peseiro, Uzoho, Lookman and an off day for Iwobi- that is where I leave it.

Prognosis is – Peseiro is nowhere near good enough, Uzoho is a basket and Lookman a waste of space (in SE colours). L:et him go and continue chopping his dollars or whatever they pay him in at Atalanta and leave the Eagles alone.

I have repeated that they are all suffering from delusion of grandeur. When sound thinking and merit gives way to sentiments, the result is what you get. Pasero mi should please explain to Nigeria why on earth Joe Aribo is in the team again? How is Uzoho the best goal keeper in Nigeria? Why pack strikers like sardine when there is an obvious gap in the midfield? A good coach strengthen the team by identifying the weaknesses first and the fixing those weaknesses. This coach does not have a clue.

Let us as fans think with a clear head, would westerhof take a division 2 midfielder to execute a world cup qualifier? How about the balance of the team? there are only 4 midfielders and how many are attacking? For years now some of us have been shouting for them to look for a new dependable goal tender but it has fallen on NFF’s deaf ears. How can a goal keeper who is not even deemed to be number 1 in an agrarian league like cyprus be the national team goal keeper? What are all these inactive and unfit players doing in the team. perhaps the most pertinent question is how on earth did we end up with a coach who may have not won a single match for Venuzuela? What was the criteria in recruiting him? Since he took the reins, what has been his win ratio? According to NFF, they were trying to avert disaster with Rohr but but ended up with the apocalypse in Pasero mi. It just goes to show that Osimhen and Ndidi are monumental to this team. Awoniyi is not good enough, man’s missing sitters! Collins is beyond abysmal.

Westerhof took 2 clubless players to an AFCON. There were several 2nd division and bench-warming players Westehof used during his time. Peter Rufai too wasn’t 1st choice in his club for a large chuck of Westerhof’s reign.

1994 was 30 years ago. Lets leave Westerhof and how he did his things 30 years ago out of this.

Nah – your’e wrong there- He missed 1 sitter – 1 sitter that’s all! How many sitters per game does Osimhen miss?? Was Awoniyi the only striker on the pitch? why didnt the other striker who your’e not criticising score??
I don’t understand what you lot are on but leave Awoniyi out of it fam – he is not the problem! If after today’s game all you can say is Awoniyi is not good enough – okay who is then? Did Boni score? Did anyone else apart from a defender score? He missed one chance ffs!
I don’t know what your’e trying to do with your focus on Awoniyi when even a blind man knows that it’s mental trying to say we lost or drew today because of him when we had another striker playing as swell and the likes of Lookman running around like a headless chicken and a completely clueless coach

How is it okay and comfortable for you to say that Lookman was running around like a headless chicken and yet you are okay with Awoniyi’s performance? At least Lookman hit the bar, so who really was running like a headless chicken? Besides, you need to calm down; the entire team did not play well today. There is no player that covered themselves in glory in this match.

However, a top striker should at the least hit the target. In addition, I never stated that we drew because of him (Your mind is probably playing tricks on you) but only took a swipe at him for his below par performance. I will reiterate in my opinion, he is not good enough for the SE (With my full chest). The other striker gave him the assist that created the sitter and your man decided that the ball should travel to Maiduguri instead of the net. In conclusion, you also stated that Osimhen misses sitters. You may be right but compare Osimhen’s goal return in the SE colours to Awoniyi.

Don’t let us blame any of players for this mess. The coach should be blamed. If another  sound and technical coach should take over today this same players will be unstoppable . Peseiro is a racist and full of pride and it is unfortunate that his pride would lead Nigeria into destruction. Before he was even given the job of coaching eagles he said he was going to win the nation cup. Who the heck does he think he is ?  What does he think of African football power house like Ghana, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal , Cotediovre , Cameroun Mali  Egypt and the rest. Does he really respect the teams we play against at all. If your coach doesn’t respect opponents there is no way the team will respect the team they are playing against. What kind of philosophy has he brought ? Attacking football that put 4 players and 2 midfield is crazy . The best we can get from Sunday’s game is a draw and if South Africa is smart they can gather 6 points from two matches while we will be left with 2 points and that is the end of our World Cup qualifier, the rest will be politics of souther FA to favor their own.
The earlier the better we sacrifice our nations cup for World Cup by sacking this empty head call Peseiro the better for us.

      Hmmm

      1. I advise you please lower or cut off your expectation.
      2. Don’t allow your BP to rise.
      3. Simple truth – these players don’t deserve to Play at the world cup. They can’t beat a below average team like Lesotho in Nigeria.
      4. They are not world cup materials.
      5. Even if oshimen and ndidi were available it may not even be different.
      6. Apart from iheanacho, I can’t see an attacker who can take responsibility or who can score impossible goals in this team.
      7. On the coach – I am always surprised why he keeps starting ademola. Ademola had been useless in our last two or three matches and Moses had come in with a spark. So common sense should let him know that Moses should start ahead of him. Ademola can’t do anything in an eagles shirt. He is not the right stuff for eagles.

      8. On the coach again, he should understand by now that he needs to be flexible with his formation. I don’t think he is wise enough to know this. He is too focused on the attackers we have and have decided not to give some new players the opportunity in the middle. Nwobodo, alhassan etc. Pessro is not wise or tactical enough to help this team.

      8. On the coach again – his confidence in some players who will never do anything good in eagles shirt is funny. Players like moffi, uzoho, aribo, ademola. I would have added chukuwueze but if only coach can always bring him in the second half, he would perform better. We were looking for a goal today and he was bringing in moffi. I laughed. Has moffi done anything to save Nigeria in the past. Dumb coach. Why can’t you throw Boniface into the middle after bringing awoniyi out and bring in tella.

      9. We were down. We have tella. You can take a risk to see what he could offer. Instead he brought players like aribo who will never do well in eagles shirt.

      10. Lower your expectation. This team does not deserve to Play at the world cup. It’s no that they won’t qualify. They don’t deserve to be there. South African clubs are doing well in Africa. If they can translate that into the national team. They will do better at the world cup. They are more hungry than these bunch of lazy players

Take heart bro. The situation is bad, but things can still work out for us. What we need now is a tactically savvy coach. Under a good coach, these same boys will do much better.
If we win the rest of our games, and we can do it if we go about things the right way, we will qualify for the world cup with games to spare. But it starts with Zimbabwe on Sunday. A win of any kind will do. After that, we can do some house cleaning.

@pompei I understand your optimism. It’s just it’s very painful to watch these players playing like chickens on the pitch.

Great teams will always kill games like this. Disappoinments too many with these players. Yet they’re wasting tax players money.

On the coach, how I wished we can just send him away and hand over the team to finidi. If he refused to take bribe or be a Nigerian he should do better than this man. It’s clear oesero does not understand the Nigerian game and the players m he is struggling.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. The blame is not limited to the Coach & his crew. NFF is the main culprit as they refused to hire a qualified and sound Coach for the National Team simply because they cannot afford their salary according to them. Peseiro didn’t force himself on Nigeria. The corrupted & incompetent Admnistrator imposed him on SE and we fans.

Also some of the players are to be blamed. Fine una Coach no sabi anything but then why wasted so much chances in a crucial match ? Doesn’t make any sense.

They played like nothing is at stake. Can’t you all learn from Osimhen tenacity and passion why on the field. I didn’t really watch the match well but the few minutes i saw, Ihaenacho played well, eventhough he was used out of position likewise Iwobi. He played from Central midfield and distribute the ball well judging from 2nd half as i didn’t watch the 1st half. With a quality attacking midfielder, they would have been more creative. Who else, no one.

Oh i almost forgot thanks to Ajayi that save us from an embarrassing defeat.

If i’m the NFF Chairman, i will begin to source for a grade A Coach immediately and once we have an agreement, i will sack the unfortunate Peseiro with immediate effect otherwise he will disgrace us at Afcon. It won’t be surprising if we don’t make it out of the group.

We shouldn’t expect much at Afcon so it’s better they sack him if they’re able to get a fantastic coach who have history and have couple of trophies in his cabinet. Salary shouldn’t be problem. At least the likes of Otedolas knows how to flex their financial muscle when SE are doing well. So all they need is approach him & other Elite that are interested in sport to source for fund and also source for sponsors for the NT so salary won’t hinder them from getting the best Man for the job

I never watch the first half but went to see the whole highlight and I never saw any chance Awoniyi had or missed at all. Not even a clear pass to him at all that he could not score. He even gave one empty net pass to Boniface that he miss controlled. I get, the people blaming Awoniyi are just doing that based on expectations or assumptions that, what will Osimhen have done better. Trust me, Osimhen have missed or blasted so many chances also that were meant to be goals and he has been lots of matches before he could get to his current goal numbers. So, be patient guys, they have diffrent tactics, Osimhen is more of a hussler, while Awo needs feeding most times, which is not present in the current uncreative eagles.

Tols Baba!!! Check YouTube for the highlight with 10:08mins. He missed an open net. They all played badly apart from Simon Moses in my opinion.

It felt like a loss to me. If you want to be at the WorldCup you must win your home games at least. Every match is now a must win from here on. We don’t have a midfield period. Does anyone know the whereabout of Etebo? The FlyingEagles midfield might do a better job with Onyedika.

Onyeka was outplayed in the middle, Iwobi is not daring, Collins is not supposed to be our left back. Osayi wasn’t doing anything on the wingback role. The best chance in the game came from an Awoniyi pass and Boniface fluffed it. Moffi came in and wasn’t even noticeable. Aribo can’t get on a cross to the box he was just flying like an antelope. Ha Temi Bami.

The less said about Boniface the better. Dude was just showboating on the pitch. I don’t even want get to the Uzoho matter. I’m gutted I just hope SA and Benin play out a draw to give us a chance. How can my country not be at a WorldCup in my backyard? I hope they step up in the next game or else!!

Well I hope so but you will see this coach put out the same formation he started with. Lazy and wasteful ademola on the left wing. Unfit and focus less Collins st left back. Basket uzoho in goal. Wasteful and timid awoniyi as a point man. Tella as an unused substitute. Moses Simon on the bench. A moffi that cannot produce anything special to play behind awoniyi.

This coach is clueless. It’s so clear now that he only makes noise. Tired of these below average white men. If only our local coach can stop stealing and bribery, it’s better ee stick to them or go for a grade A coach.

If this coach is wise he should use

Uzoho (because we have little option)

        Osayi
        Aina at left back
        Semi
        Baseey
        Onyeka
        Iwobi
Iheanacho (to play behind main striker)
        Boniface as main striker
        Moses st left wing
Tella ( take a risk with tella on the right)

But really I think they should just kiss the world cup good bye. It’s painful though.
