Benin Striker Dossou: We Have ‘The Weapons’ To Beat Super Eagles

    Adeboye AmosuBy Adeboye AmosuMarch 13, 2021Updated:March 13, 202116 Comments2 Mins Read

Benin Republic forward Jodel Dossou insists the Squirrels can create a big upset by beating close -door neighbours Nigeria in this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture, reports Completesports.com.

The two countries will clash in a matchday five encounter at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto Novo on March 27.

The Super Eagles beat Michel Dussuyer’s side 2-1 on matchday one and top Group L with eight points from four matches.

Benin are a point behind the three-time African kings and a win in the highly anticipated encounter will see them book a spot in Cameroon 2021.

Dossou, who plays for French club Clermont warned that the team know the importance of the game and will go all out for a win.

“This match is a very decisive match for us. We have the weapons to take on this team that we have already played against and a team that I respect very well,” he said in an interview with ORTB.

“If we are focused and play well, we can win.

“We are playing at home and we know a win will qualify us as our final qualifier will be against Sierra Leone. It is therefore up to us to pull out all the stops to snatch this qualifying ticket for our fans who are always there for us.

“As a team, we’ve been talking about it for a few months now. We know it’s a very difficult game for us. I can reassure you that we take this game very seriously. ”

Of course if they play well ,who says they can’t win,I will want the super eagles to win on that day but football is not mathematics where one plus one is two. A team that wants it more will win.i want to see a good game of football on that day.

Our opponents are already strategizing, pulling all stops including the use of juju to derail us. We are still debating on whether we should go to Cotonou by canoe or we should just trek, in addition to crying on the pages of newspapers over a player that wouldn’t even be dressed for the match and those who were not invited, when there are 23 more than capable others listed. Talk about searching frantically for chaos where there is abundance of tranquility. LMAO.
Anything wey dem do…e nor go work….! Anything wey dem say…e nor go work…!
We are flying already to Cameroon….that’s all that matters now.

One thing the Beninoise are sure to use in all their matches is black magic. They confidently rely on it but its efficacy in football is very questionable lol but my super eagles will be relying on talents, prayers, and bad football administration…

Since the list came out and Olise was on standby….I’ve been very skeptical about his commitment and if he even knows that he was invited. Now to see this story this morning casts alot of doubts….

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Michael Olise’s number one priority is to represent world champions France at international level amid serious interest from the Nigeria Football Federation.

The versatile Reading midfielder qualifies to represent France and Algeria through his mother, Nigeria through his father and England through citizenship.

The Nigeria Football Federation are hoping to steal a march on their competitors to the services of the highly-rated teenager after placing him on standby for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.

A high-ranking Super Eagles official has informed this website that Olise was listed for the qualifiers simply because he is eligible to play for Nigeria, which does not necessarily mean that he has committed his international future to  the Super Eagles.

Although Olise wants to take up the option of playing for France, he hasn’t entirely closed the door on the prospect of turning out for Nigeria but the three-time African champions are down the pecking order as things stand.

The former Chelsea schoolboy is having a banner season at Reading, scoring 5 goals and assisting nine others in 33 appearances in the Championship.

Olise was recently rated the 10th most promising player of his age group in the world by Neuchâtel-based International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) – the only Nigeria-eligible player to rank among the top 25 for the 2000, 2001 and 2002 age groups.

@Footballfanatic, i have been overly skeptical myself, i had perused his TL on most of his SM accts and i haven’t seen any reaction of any sort from him, reason why it amazes me most times when a lot of folks here just dump names on the SE’s coach and subsequently blame him for not inviting player A, B, C. I am still not convinced this young man has committed to 9ja but i will be super happy if and when I see him in Nigeria’s colors. The boy is a bundle of talent and so matured for his age, and at 19 he can only get better…

Exactly…..I’ll be very happy too if he plays for us but there hasn’t been any reaction from him nor any follow up about his interest or joy at being penciled down to play for us. I’m still hoping on positivity but my instincts tell me we are in for a rude awakening and NFF or Rohr might have shot themselves in the foot again with the issue of allegiance of a foreign born player.

Yes, I’m afraid olise might totally change his mind about Nigeria, after Saka and Abraham, I can’t see another prospect going to another country with great players already so they shun him.

What’s the point insulting the Beninnoise player as foolish? You want him to say:”Oh! Almighty Super Eagles… We respect you so much, as such it’s a no-contest! So just come to Porto Novo and rape us!”, is that what you want an opposing national team player to say and not rally his mates with confidence of some sorts? It’s confidence from both sides that makes a football match worthy of wstching… So he has spokn in order! One love…

Nigerians soccer fans are still stuck on old glory. Gone are the days when we fielded 11 foreign based players and Benin had like 10 players from clubs around Africa including the Nigerian league…..Now you have Beninoise players in French and German clubs …. And they have a coach who is well versed in African football. So we have careful.

@Footballfanatic… thank you abeg! People have forgotten so soon how Benin Republic bundled Morocco out of the second round in the last Afcon where tiny Madagascar kikced our butt also. Football no longer has minnows especially amongst West African nations… Super Eagles did not win the first leg convincingly, it will be in our best interest to remain humble and modest in the lead-up to the match against Benin Republic… they got a boost in confidence from Sierra Leone’s result against us over two legs, and they have not forgotten they were able to draw first blood in our own backyard… it is a tricky tie in my opinion…

Even if the Michael Olise boy refuses to play for Nigeria… we have Ovie Ejaria who identifies 100% with Nigeria and nobody can actually tell me, if not for being rosy-eyed, that Ovie Ejaria’s game is inferior to Michael Olise’s. So actually… there is no cause for alram. I also believe Eze of Crystal Palace game is not superior to Ovie Ejaria… he has just been fortunate to make the step to Premier League first before Ejaria not forgetting that Ejaria had talent enough to be at Liverpool for long… I just do not know what is delaying all our player switches of Nationality.

I  hope SE players are hearing this thrash otherwise hell may let loose on that day if care is not taken into cognizance. SE just need dedication and eschew complacency on the field. May God see us through in Jesus name.
