Cameron Champ is in pole position heading into the final round of the Safeway Open after carding a score of 67 on Saturday.
The American, who is looking to claim his second victory on the PGA Tour following his success at last year’s Sanderson Farms Championship, did not drop a shot during his third round and now holds a three-stroke lead at the top of the standings on 14-under-par.
The world number 170 admits it would be “huge” if he could go on and claim his second victory on the tour, although there are a number of challengers looking to knock him off his perch, with a trio of players sitting in a share of second place on 11-under.
That includes Colombian Sebastian Munoz and Canada’s Adam Hadwin, who both matched Champ’s third-round score of 67, while Nick Taylor could have been even closer to the leader, but back-to-back bogeys at 15 and 16 meant he had to settle for a score of 70.
Overnight leader Bryson DeChambeau appears to have played his way out of contention, however, as a round of 76 has seen him slip into a tie for 15th on eight-under-par, six shots off the lead.
DeChambeau failed to pick up a single shot during his round, with a double-bogey at the 13th proving a particularly bitter blow for the 26-year-old, who had come into the weekend looking well placed to win his sixth PGA Tour title.
