Brighton have confirmed defender Alex Cochrane has signed a new two-year deal at the club. The full-back played a crucial role last season as the Seagulls’ Under-23s impressed during their first campaign in Premier League Division 1. Cochrane, now 19, says his game has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months and he believes he can improve even further under new manager Graham Potter.
Cochrane has joined up with the first team for the first few pre-season training sessions and has been joined by Under-23 team-mates Viktor Gyokeres, Leo Ostigard, Jayson Molumby, Max Sanders, Aaron Connolly and Steven Alzate. With the new season now just weeks away, the youngster is ready to try and force his way into Potter’s squad.
He told the club’s official website: “It’s a very proud moment for me and my family and I’m delighted, as a lot of hard work has gone into my career so far and that will continue now as I try to keep pushing on. “It’s been a natural progression for me through the age groups so far at this club and last season was a very good one for me.
Now I have to kick on because this coming campaign is a big season. “There’s been a number of our Under-23s involved with the first team and that’s obviously really encouraging for all of us. “For me it’s about building on last year and taking myself to that next level and with the coaching staff here, I feel like I can do that.”
