Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has revealed that his team failed to cope with Atalanta’s pace and duels in the final of the Europa League.
Recall that Atalanta defeated Leverkusen 3-0 on Wednesday, to end their unbeaten record this season.
However, in an interview with TNT Sports, Alonso stated that Atalanta deserves to win the Europa League title.

“We could not cope with many difficult situations that we were preparing for because Atalanta demanded so much of you.
“One-on-one situations, duels, but we were not getting the ball in the right situations to take advantage. They do that so well.
“We were not able to come back and get that back. It was not meant to be. The unbeaten run has come to an end, but congratulations to Atalanta, they deserve it, so nothing more to say,” Alonso told TNT Sports.

Starting Adli ahead of Boniface, benching Tella who has single digit goals in 2 dozens of appearances was a disaster class of a choice of a coach who wants unbeaten season.
Since his AFCON injury, Boniface has not been as sharp for Leverkusen. Lately, most of his goals have come from penalties. Boniface at his best, could have made the difference!

Atalanta capitalised on Bayern Leverkusen weakness which is play them with high tempo speed. Lookman 3 shots – 3 goals, give the big match player is cake.
