Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was the star of the show as Sparta Rotterdam were forced to a 0-0 draw by Utrecht in their Eredivisie clash on Thursday afternoon, reports Completesports.com.
Okoye made a number of crucial saves to stop the visitors from claiming maximum points in the game.
The 21-year-old has now kept 10 clean sheet in 29 league appearances for Sparta Rotterdam this season.

The former Fortuna Dusseldorf goalie has conceded just once in his last four league appearances for the club.
Sparta Rotterdam occupy eighth position on the table with 44 points from 33 games.
Henk Fraser’s side will take on Heerenven in their last league game of the season on Sunday.

2021 is really a good year for most of our players, plenty strikers painting Europe with goals (Osimhen, Kelechi, Onuachu, Moffi, Simmy, Sadiq, Ike Ugbo etc), midfielders holding their own with starling performances (Ndidi, Aribo, Iwobi, Olise), wingers mesmerising across Europe (Chukwueze, Simon, Ejuke, Lookman), Defenders not left out (Balogun, Ekong, Akpoguna, Aina, Ebuehi, Tomori). Nigeria SE will surely be difficult to beat at AFCON 2022 once these star player can be gelled into a formidable team during the pre-tournament camping for 4 weeks.

Okoye didnt earn his spot just because he is half-caste as you claim…he has earned it by sheer hardwork. Francis Uzoho knows what to do to reclaim his no 1 shirt.
Maduka Okoye has done enough to be considered better than Vincent Enyeama. If we can compare Mikel with Nwakali then any other comparison is fair game.

Monumental fallacy
While okoye has improved this season. He has not done enough to be compared to the iconic Vincent enyeama. He may be number one in the Super Eagles but I still feel deep down that the fans dont really have as much confidence in him as they have had in previous goalies eg enyeama, ikeme and even uzoho. He is obviously the best of all the available goalies we have at the moment and he is playing in a descent league. So I understand why he will be considered as the number one goalie of the Super Eagles. But he still needs to work on his game and maintain this good form. There was a time he couldn’t stop conceding goals both for club and country, but it seems he has improved and is now better at keeping from conceding goals. He knows uzoho is also doing well and waiting for his chance to reclaim his number one spot. That alone should keep him on his toes.
Plus in terms of players doing well for their clubs so far I wouldn’t include iwobi in that list. Yes, he plays well for the Super Eagles but at club level he is usually found wanting. I just hope with the new players coming in to the team, he wont be left out or reduced to a bench role.
This lad is increasingly gaining confidence with scintillating performances week in and out for his modest clubside in The Netherlands.
I had doubts (abnitio) regarding his abilities to man the post for the Nigerian Super Eagles but his stunning displays have allayed my fears.
He had one of his best games in the colours of Rotherdam earlier today, muscling out six (6) wonderful saves.
I pray and wish that big boys (clubs) in Europe snap him out, as he continues his development.
