Manchester City have arguably been even more dominant this season and it would be no surprise to see them become the first English club to complete the quadruple.
It requires a huge effort to win all four trophies – those being the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League – but here are three reasons as to why City can become record breakers.
Firstly, for a team to be successful, they must have a world-class striker in their arsenal and that is exactly what City have had since a certain Sergio Aguero rocked up at the Etihad Stadium in 2011 from Atletico Madrid.
The 30-year-old just keeps getting better and better with every season and he has already netted seven goals from 11 Premier League appearances this season, helping the Citizens build a two-point lead at the top of the table.
Brazilian Gabriel Jesus would get into most top European teams and he has been forced to watch from the substitute’s bench for the majority of the campaign so far, showing just how impressive Aguero has been.
Secondly, a solid pairing is required at the heart of defence and City appears to have found a consistent duo, in the shape of AymericLaporte and John Stones.
Both players are 24 years of age, so have plenty of energy and desire to succeed, and they have played a massive part in the club’s 10 clean sheets in all competitions this season.
The pairing have also shown great composure and maturity on the European stage and keeping the duo fit will be crucial if City are going to add all four trophies to their collection.
Finally, behind every team is a great manager and that is no different for the Citizens, with Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss continues to adapt with every year in English football and the 100 points amassed in the Premier League last season proved this.
Importantly, after being outdone by Liverpool in the last campaign, Guardiola proved he can change things tactically when the two teams met last month in the league. The game at Anfield ended 0-0, with City missing a late penalty, but the way the visitors nullified the threat of the Reds’ front three was impressive to see.
Guardiola continues to improve his players, you only have to look at the form of Raheem Sterling, and the manager can be the final piece of the jigsaw to lead the club to the quadruple.
