Mauricio Pochettino says both he and his players remain fully committed to Tottenham, insisting they can turn around their poor start to the season.
The Argentine is the new favourite to be the next Premier League manager to get the sack in the wake of Tuesday’s 7-2 Champions League thrashing by Bayern Munich.
The defeat marked the first time Spurs had conceded seven at home in their modern history and heaped further pressure on Pochettino after a below-average start to the campaign.
The north London outfit already appear out of the title race, sitting 10 points behind leaders Liverpool, while they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Colchester.
Alongside results not going their way on the field, the ex-Southampton boss has also had to deal with reported division in the Tottenham dressing room.
It has been alleged that certain members of the squad have taken umbrage with Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, who fall out of contract at the end of the season, accusing them of not trying.
The trio of contract rebels have had their commitment questioned in the wake of recent performances, although Alderweireld has denied the suggestion that they aren’t giving 100 per cent.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Brighton, Pochettino has now tried to rally the troops, insisting everyone involved at the club remains fully focused on the Tottenham cause. “It is a moment to stay all together,” he said. “I accept the opinions. When you don’t win, not only at Tottenham, this happens at every club in the world.
“But in the end, the only thing that happened is that we lost a game. I have no doubt we are going to stay together and find a way to be successful again, no doubt.”
Pochettino was in a bullish mood at his pre-match press conference on Friday, following up his defiant message about his and the players’ commitment by challenging a certain line of questioning.
He shot down one reporter’s question about Spurs’ lack of clean sheets, arguing it was negatively framed.
