Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi has announced his departure from Cypriot First Division club, Omonia Nicosia, reports Completesports.com.
Abdullahi joined Omonia Nicosia as a free agent in 2020 penning a two-year contract.
The 29-year-old won the league title in his first season at the club.
Last season, the versatile defender won the Cypriot Cup and Super Cup with the club.

Abdullahi announced his departure on the social media on Friday.
“I am honoured to play for Omonia, in two years we have been able to create history.For decades titles were missing in Omonia & I am glad in two years, we won three titles & restored the pedigree of the club,”Abdullahi wrote on his Twitter handle.
“This is not a goodbye message, but to say we will see in the future.
I appreciate the management, coaches, backroom staff, and my teammates for the amazing memories we shared.
“To Omonia fans, I appreciate your support and love, I had an amazing memories.
“Wishing Omonia success in future endeavours. ”
Abdullahi made 50 league appearances for the club without a goal to his name.

Pls let’s stop the hate.. I’m not from the north, I am Igbo but I can see shehu has always done his best whenever he is called upon. He is not the Best player in our team but has always been a good substitute if called to play few mins to the end of games.. Can we just appreciate this man… We criticise these players too much.. Yes! Shehu used to TRY his best. In fact more than best self just like Joel Obi, Onazi, Onuachu, Mba, Uzoenyi, Ogu, Akwuegbu , Oneruo, Akpeyi, Musa, Awaziem , Echiejile and other fine players like that used to TRY back then and even now.

And are they lying….? Has Omeruo been more useful to the SE than Shehu in the last 5-6 years…? Is Omeruo currently more productive for the national team than shehu…? Why does Omeruo’s name never pop up…? Why do y’all hardly complain anytime you see Kenneth’s name on the list of invitees….? Or is he not blocking the emergence of new young CBs too…? I bet if he were to be one Ibrahim Danladi, or Sani Ribadu he too would have been classed as a “quota system player”
You asked a very beautiful question up there….Is shehu the only northerner..? CAPITAL NO. Yet he has played under EVERY SE eagles coach since 2013…I repeat…EVERY SUPER EAGLES COACH SINCE 2013. Do you know football more than all those coaches or more than Jose Peserio who has come in Now and seen him one-on-one in training to still retain him…? If Shehu were to be a calamity on the pitch, would he have lasted this long in reckoning…?
At this stage of his international career, Shehu doesnt need to play in Monaco to get validation from anybody. Shehu’s is a PROVEN PLAYER. He doesnt have anything to prove to anybody regarding his ability to play international football. From being a key part of the 2014 CHAN bronze winning team, to being a key part of the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze winning team, to being a key part of the SE team enroute the 2018 WC, delivering the assist that took the team to Russia, as a midfielder or as a right back, Shehu has nothing to prove to any of you. His ability to perform at international level is and has never been in doubt. Shehu is a proven player and only needs to keep proving himself to his national team coaches which he has been doing till date.
In a team where competition is high, Shehu has held on to his own comparative advantage of being the only player who can operate comfortably as a central midfielder and at the same time as a right back….his own case doesnt need trial or experimentation. He is PROVEN in both positions, both in the national team and in his club. And I dare y’all to tell us which matches we have lost largely due to Shehu’s poor performance in the SE. He might not be a flamboyant player, but his output has never been inferior to what others in the RB position are currently offering at the moment despite nearing his thirties already. Not every RB would be an Ola Aina that forgets his defensive duties because he wants to join the attack. He brings in some stability in that position whenever the coaches feel they need some. His simplicity, tactical discipline and attention to coaching instructions, together with his ability to plug fittingly into the team anytime he’s called upon is what is still endearing him to national team coaches.
Shehu Abdullahi is the Garba Lawal of this era….the one fans dont want to see because he of his tribal and religious affiliation, but the one coaches want to have in their team for his discipline, versatility and for buffers during fitness crises situation.
Once again, is Shehu Abdulahi the only northerner….??? For him to have played under every SE coach since 2013. Even the effervescent likes of Siasia and Oliseh made Shehu a key member of their teams. I doubt if he had remained in reckoning if he had been a constant flop and calamity in the green and white shirt.
And if you want statistics, Shehu played a total of 33 matches (domestic and in Europe) in the just concluded season, averaging 70 minutes per match. That is the player liars call “bench warmer” in his club just to discredit him

But cry as loud as you want….if he should convince Peserio that he can still come in handy for the SE when called upon, then get ready to see more Shehu invitations for a little longer. Thank God Peserio is not a Nigerian, so he wouldnt give a damn about who is a southerner or a northerner, but rather who has what to offer him and his team.
